Dan Flaherty has written on a wide range of topics in the course of the last several years. From 2003-2005 he wrote the now-defunct Irish-American Catholic, consisting of essays on faith, politics, culture and sports. In ’05 he began the process of separating those interests out, focusing on a variety of blog efforts in politics and sports. His efforts eventually coalesced around Blue Dog Reaganite in the political field, Big Ten Country in college sports and The Bos-Wash Corridor in baseball and the NFL.
These three sites are what he melodramatically terms, the “journey of a troubled soul”. It is the work of someone whose political passions are rooted in both his familial roots in the pre-1968 Democratic Party and his personal roots with Ronald Reagan. His sports passions have long been a combination of his Midwestern upbringing and East Coast interests. The trio of blogs that remain online today, though they have reached their conclusion, are testimony to his personal biases and opinions and what he believes.
Today his work enters a new phase, as he publishes The Sports Notebook blog series, with separate sites for baseball, college football, pro football and college basketball. Begun in August 2009 with college football, the various branches of The Notebook offer daily commentary across the sports spectrum.
